Run With the Wild Horses was created in honor and reverence for the Wild Horses and Burros of America. Our love and respect for horses goes as far back a memory allows. Through our relationship with horses we have come to learn about their keen sensitivity and their noble and trusting spirit .We bared witness many times of the profound transformational and healing power of horses in our own personal lives and the lives of others. Therefore the vision to create a business that would expand awareness and help protect America’s horses thru art, creativity and joy was a natural process.
On December 15th 2011, we gathered solemnly to hold a candlelight vigil to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the passing of the Wild Horse and Burro act . As we shared, we were reminded and inspired by the courageous spirit of Velma Johnson who believed in the power we each have to make a difference. We shed tears for the millions of horses lives that were brutally and senselessly destroyed in the name of greed…we worried deeply about the future of the remaining as new legislation had recently been passed to further threaten and endangered the lives of the aprox 30,000 mustangs roaming free and specially the 37,000 imprisoned in holding facilities.
We walked away that night with a determination that lit our hearts on fire. We were fully aware of the uphill battle to be fought in the name of America’s Wild Horses, we were also aware of the strong political influence of greedy cattle barons and spineless special interests.Yet, as Margaret Mead so eloquently said ”Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, is the only thing that ever has”. If we want change we have to see it happen. All social movements at their core are guided and inspired by the passion of individuals . Finding one’s purpose enlivens the spirit like nothing else can.
We are committed to keeping the light shining and burning bright for the future of our most precious and magnificent Wild Horses and Burros. We believe that in the dark times that America’s Wild Horses and burros face, we have all been called upon to shed our personal and collective light on their behalf through expanding awareness, sharing healing energy, creativity and love.
The creation of Run with the Wild Horses continues to be a joyful process, an exercise in believing that anything is possible with hard work and dedication and the support of like minded spirits. We have been truly blessed by those in the horse advocacy community who have embraced our work and have shared their talents with us. We believe that our place in this community is to create work that inspires and educates people while providing funding through the sale of items that will support the powerful efforts by existing Wild Horse advocacy groups. Together we will ensure that future generations will Run with the wild Horses and rejoice in their freedom and their peace.
With deep gratitude… from our heart to yours,
Dana and Vivian
